Beauty or Disability

Image
Beauty or Disability I know your words behind my back! I know the words you say to my face I know you have your judgment lenses on I choose not to see through your eyes! I choose not to see through my eyes I choose not to see the lies I am more then your mind can fathom! I am beautiful in and out I am en-abled from within If only you have eyes to see! If only you looked as beautiful If you loved you the way you are Why do you try so hard to be me?

The Phoenix

Image
THE PHOENIX You can be who you set your mind to be and not who the society has named you. As a young child growing up, I was a coward and very timid. My academics suffered as well as my social life. I got scorned repeatedly and compared to others, as good-for-nothing. This affected my self esteem and made me shrink. I wanted to be more but couldn’t share with anyone. At some point, I thought death would be the answer but I had no strength to kill myself. I discovered the art of drawing and I made it my confidant. For everything I feel, from fear, anger, love to strength, I draw. This art is significant to my rebirth. The splash of water shows I’ve been purified and that I have channeled my fear into what I love doing and I have become more. It’s a cry back at the society, that you can only try to shrink me but I’m a Phoenix that will continue to rise. I know many share the same past, but I hope you rise stronger like I did! -TimileyinArts-

Travails of the African child: A silhouette expression

Image
The Parental Treat This piece combines silhouette expression and 3d. It illustrates a common event to most African children since history can remember, till the present day. Most kids get something broken in the house, the most common is plates. And the best treatment an average African parent has for this is a two-branches whip made of skin (koboko, pankere). I had my taste, you must have had yours too. Question is does this ever solve the problem?  I think it never did, it only leaves some of us with body marks and tattoos. The image shows rough edges (like a paper eaten by cockroaches and rats on the edges) signifying the tears such treatment have left in many children. Although some come out strong, others don't. If you have personal experiences, be free to share, let art speak your mind!  -Timileyin-
