Angels at Work (a remake)

Description

An arrow piercing through a person's ears, the expression on her face shows a little sadness but not a scream or the expression expected from the face of someone going through such pain. Why? There are tiny caricature human figures in the background; some cutting off the arrow, some pulling it out, one was hit by the same arrow sharing the pain. There are other details that makes this piece African and others that captures non African-ness.

Let's talk

After three years, I decided to make this piece again in the ongoing series of works. I have been drawing on chip board and it has been very challenging, the fact that the paper is not white and I had to create my white highlights from materials like white gel pen and white pencil and do an abstract painting with pastel chalks on the background.

I am doing a number of things for the first time and all works in this series are imaginative which makes it harder puting my imaginations down on paper. In the first Five months of the year 2021, I have made Five drawings and after the sixth I may put a pause to my works in this series.

I must say, drawing realistic imaginative faces is easier than having a reference. This series of works merge different styles, techniques and media; Abstract, realism, illustration, drawing, painting, 3d, landscape and so on. The imaginative realistic faces and the coloured backgrounds are what many find attractive, as much as they play important roles in my works in this series, the illustrations made with caricature human figures are the strength of these works.

Angels at work is one that I have a strong emotional bias with. It captures how we can easily disregard the help supplied by our friends and family in looking out for us and helping us through difficult times. We can easily take them for granted and undermine their efforts. They are our angels and everyone has them around either as family, friends, neighbours or spiritual oversights.

Every detail in this piece conveys a message including the abstractive background.

So I don't bore you with my writing, kindly observe the picture of the piece again and drop your comments or questions.
